Back in June, Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg posted a photo of himself meeting the band as a young kid while wearing a signature Slipknot mask. Earlier this month, he posted another photo recreating the moment where his father Max introduced him to the band’s guitarist Jim Root backstage at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J. So it goes without saying that Weinberg knows what it’s like to be a fan and to meet your heroes.

In August, a 14-year-old drummer named Maren Alford made waves with an amazing cover of the band’s “Unsainted.” In the caption of the viral video Alford wrote, “Jay Weinberg is one of my favorite drummers, and I’m excited to cover one of his songs – the moment I heard Slipknot 'Unsainted' I knew this was the one! Very proud to be in the SJC Drums artist family with Jay!" Alford writes in the description of the video.”

Alford’s video caught the attention of Weinberg, who wrote her on Twitter. Weinberg wrote, “So rad. You’re killing it.” He added, “I first started learning how to play drums by doing just what you’re doing, at your exact age.” He then invited her to their Knotfest show in Dallas, Texas.

After they met, Alford took to Facebook to share a photo of her and Weinberg writing, “Best day EVER hanging out with Jay Weinberg before KNOTFEST in Dallas! Not only is he a beast behind the kit, but he’s also the most encouraging, kind and generous guy! Really a dream come true to meet and spend time with him and the Slipknot show was INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU for everything Jay — you’re the BEST! So much love for my SJC Custom Drums family!"

Alford is the drummer for the pop-rock female trio Not Ur Girlfrenz.

Slipknot released the video for "Unsainted" back in May, which was the first single from their new album and the initial reveal of their new masks. We Are Not Your Kind debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 100-thousand copies in its first week. The group will take the stage in Louisville, Ken. on September 27. See all their tour dates here.
