UPDATE: New Stadium for MSU on Current Sikes Senter Mall Property

Well it looks like we have a new development. Ron Kitchens, CEO and Managing Partner of the Wichita Falls Chamber told KFDX, that a portion of the current mall property will be transformed into a new football stadium for Midwestern State University. According to Kitchens, Midwestern State University would use the new stadium for football, men’s and women’s soccer, and track and field events. Looks like a notice was sent to lease owners at the mall this week about an upcoming meeting that could mean big changes for the mall property.

KFDX is reporting that folks who have leases at Sikes Senter Mall were given a notice. Apparently on August 14th, a meeting between mall owners, 4b sales tax corporation, Wichita Falls Economic Development Corporation, and the city of Wichita Falls City Council will be taking place. The plan is to purchase around 60 acres in the area to make a new retail center and sports facility.

Current Sikes Senter Property Owned by Summit

Back in 2022, Summit Properties USA officially bought Sikes Senter Mall. As you can see, it's been awhile since the property map has been updated (February 2024). At Home and JCPenney are still listed, but according to the website the current mall property sits on 58 acres.

Has Summitt Ever Done Something Like This Before?

Besides owning residential and hotel properties in the New York area. Summit owns 27 mall throughout America. This morning I scrolled through all 27 malls to see if I could find a similar design that they're talking about doing for Wichita Falls with this sports facility. I am unable to find a single property that is similar to this proposed plan. According to KFDX, the property they intend to purchase is worth 28 million dollars. We will wait and see what the future holds for our Wichita Falls mall.
