Wichita Falls Second Grader Helps Get New Playground for Her School
Thanks to the effort of this little girl, a plan was put in place to get these kids a new playground after their previous one was deemed unsafe by the city.
Tech Sergeant Samuel O'Brien with Sheppard Air Force Base has a great feel good story for us today. It looks like a wooden playground was not allowed to be played on at Sheppard Elementary School. Second grader Margot Terrell wanted to play on that playground. So she got together with her teacher to organize a petition to get the playground updated and safe. She got several kids in the school to sign the petition.
“Students would like to use the wooden playground. I have over 100 signatures from others would like it fixed,” wrote second grader Margot Terrell. “It reminds me of playing Cat’s Kingdom with my friend Milo, who moved. Other kids should get to make good memories too.”
That's right Margot! Kids should get to make good memories too. Thanks to the petition getting into the hands of some pretty big names, including our state representative Ronny Jackson. The playground enhancement started getting more traction.
Girl Scout Troop 8240 also made it their silver project this year. A silver project is an annual community issue that girl scout troops look to resolve. Thanks to the petition, the girl scout troop, teachers at the school, and the countless people that helped get this playground back in working order for the kids.
Fun Fact, April is the Month of the Military Child
Established in 1986, April honors children supporting deployed parents, experiencing frequent moves, and changing schools. I can't think of a way better way to honor these kids than giving them a brand new and safe place to play on campus.
