Triple Digit Temperatures All Week in Wichita Falls

This is one of those weeks where it is important to stay hydrated with the high temperatures in our area. August is typically the most brutal month for high temperatures in our area, but on the first day of August this year. We will also have another factor making it feel a little hotter outside.

Saharan Dust Moving Into Texas This Week

This morning the first of this Saharan dust plume hit the Texas gulf coast and is expected to pretty much affect all of Texas as you can see in the map above. For us in Wichita Falls, most residents will notice a change on Thursday. Mainly looking at sunrises or sunsets. The dust creates a more vibrant sunset than what you typically see on any given day.

Get Ready for Worse Air Quality in Wichita Falls

If you or someone you know deals with respiratory issues, asthma, or seasonal allergies. it would be best not to work too hard outside the next few days. The dust is known to aggravate some folks with these conditions making it difficult for them to breathe.

Wichita Falls Will Feel Hotter While the Dust is in Our Area

Sahara dust will also limit thunderstorm development and enhance daytime heating by keeping the skies dry and trapping hot hair near the ground. This is because dust can absorb and reflect sunlight, according to the Earth Observatory at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
