I hadn't thought about ABC's Wide World of Sports in years until the ol' Sports Illustrated showed up in the mail this week. Turns out they celebrated their 50th anniversary last week even though the show's been off the air for 13 years now.

For those of us old enough to remember only having three channels to choose from on TV, Wide World of Sports was a pretty cool niche program that broke up the monotony on Saturday afternoons. The opening sequence was especially cool to me and the catchphrase "The Thrill of Victory and The Agony of Defeat" was a staple of American culture. I went on YouTube and watched a couple of intros from years back and although it seems like just yesterday that I was sitting in front of the TV taking in whatever crazy sport they were covering that week, the video quality made me remember that I am, in fact, getting old.
