Local Reaction To On The Border's Closure In Wichita Falls

Before you say another casualty of Sikes Senter Mall. It looks like On The Border is closing all their locations across the country, according to rumors.

Well I saw several people in Wichita Falls were blindsided today that the On The Border location in Wichita Falls will be closing on Friday (June 12,2026).

Obviously, I don't believe everything I see on Facebook. So I decided to visit the restaurant on my lunch break and can confirm this is not a rumor. On The Border is closing in Wichita Falls. According to an employee at the restaurant, the company is closing all of their restaurants. I cannot confirm that information since On The Border's corporate office is not answering their phones.

Doing a quick Google search on this story, I discovered On The Border is closing restaurants in a similar fashion the past few weeks across the country. However, I cannot confirm that every location has the same fate as us in Wichita Falls.

Papas Restaurants Just Acquired On The Border on May 1, 2026

The owners of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Pappasito's Cantina, Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, Pappas Bar-B-Q, Pappas Burger and Yiayia's Greek Kitchen recently added On the Border Mexican Grill and Kitchen to their portfolio.

At the time of the acquisition, it seemed like they were excited for the future of the On The Border brand. "On The Border has been woven into the fabric of Texas dining for decades, a place where generations of guests have gathered, celebrated and returned for the Tex-Mex they love. Now, it's part of our family," said Pappas Restaurants Chief Marketing Officer Christina Pappas. We're delighted to honor that history with the quality and hospitality that Pappas is known for, while continuing to evolve the brand for loyal guests, both old and new."

We will wait and see if On The Border lives to see another day, but sadly it won't be here in Wichita Falls.
