National Cheerleaders Association Moving Competition Out of Dallas, Texas
Not a good week of news when it comes to National Cheerleaders Association and Dallas.
Since 1995, the NCA or National Cheerleaders Association has held their All Star Cheer Competition in Dallas. This event generates tens of millions of dollars for the Dallas area with so many cheer leading organizations coming in to compete for the best. For instance, at the 2018 event 23,655 athletes from over 39 states and 9 countries came to Dallas to compete. This is a very big deal in the world of cheer leading. However, this past event did not go so well last week.
A fight broke out between some parents, which you can watch above. This fight however, started chaos at the competition. During the scuffle, some large poles were knocked over creating some loud booms. The thousands of people in attendance thought a gun was going off and fled the competition for safety. This chaos caused a stampede and ten people in total have claimed injuries from this event over the weekend.
The chaos happened on Saturday of the event, on Sunday many teams pulled out concerned for their safety of what happened the day before. Thankfully the ten people injured in the stampede all had non-life threatening injuries. The most severe were some broken bones from people getting trampled trying to escape the convention center.
NCA Moving All Star Competition to Houston Next Year
Over the weekend the competition made headlines in Dallas for the chaos that ensued and now it looks like Dallas is out of this competition for the next three years. Apparently construction is taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center and this will move the competition to Houston. Some may want to keep in Houston after the events over the weekend. They plan on returning to Dallas in 2029. We will wait and see if they stick to that plan.
