The legendary frontman and founder of Motörhead has reportedly died at the age of 70.

The news of Lemmy's death was first reported by his longtime friend Eddie Trunk on Twitter. Motörhead themselves later posted a statement to their Facebook page saying that Lemmy passed away from “a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer” that he found out about on December 26.

In addition to cancer, Lemmy also suffered from a number of other health issues including the need for a defibrillator in his chest to correct an irregular heartbeat. Lemmy also suffered from a hematoma in 2013. In August of this year Lemmy was forced to leave the stage while performing in Salt Lake City due to a lung infection.

Throughout all of his health scares, Lemmy was able to maintain a positive attitude and sense of humor saying, “Apparently, I am still indestructible” back in August.

Lemmy was born Ian Fraser Kilmister on December 24, 1945, and formed the band Motörhead in June of 1975. Motörhead has since released 22 studio albums and are credited as being a huge influence on many other bands, including Metallica.

In November of this year, former Motörhead drummer Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor died at the age of 61.
