Marilyn Manson has suggested that his friend, actor and guitarist Johnny Depp, is “considering” the possibility of joining his band. It follows the departure of guitarist Twiggy Ramirez last year after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him.

“Johnny Depp is considering a position on guitar. Sound great?” Manson tweeted yesterday (Jan. 17). As of press time, the comment has received more than 21,000 likes and 2,000 comments, and nearly 5,000 retweets.

Manson and Depp have a history of collaboration, most recently when the actor guested on the videos for "Kill4Me" and "Say10" from the shock rocker’s latest album Heaven Upside Down. Noisecreep reported that Manson had talked up their relationship before they guested together at an awards ceremony in 2012, saying: “I’ve known him forever and he started his band, ‘The Kids,’ in Ft. Lauderdale. I had a band, ‘Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids,’ in Ft. Lauderdale. It’s just strange that I’ve known him all these years and we’ve never done music together.” The pair later worked together on a cover of the Carly Simon classic “You’re So Vain.”

Depp’s musical interests have come further to the fore in recent years. He was a member of Alice Cooper's side project the Hollywood Vampires, which also featured Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry in 2015, and, according to Cooper, Perry once asked Depp for guitar lessons.  “There's a movie called Chocolat," Cooper said, "and [Depp] plays this gypsy guitar player, and he does all this Django Reinhardt stuff, and it's really him. It's not somebody playing for him, he's really playing that stuff. Joe Perry heard that and he called him up and said, 'Can I get guitar lessons from you?' So that's how good Johnny is."

Last year Manson said that if Depp ever ran for President, he’d volunteer to serve as Vice President alongside him. But he added: “I wouldn’t live in the White House. It’s too white and too stupid-looking.”
