A music fan in England apparently committed suicide earlier this year because a show by the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures (featuring Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones) left him with such severe tinnitus — a constant ringing in the ears — that he couldn’t sleep for three months, a UK coroner’s investigation reported.

Robert McIndoe, a 52-year-old father of two, tried to overdose at his home in South London, then later that same month stabbed himself to death. “He accepted death as a side-effect of stopping the noise,” his psychiatrist Dr. Helen Stinson told the UK paper Daily Mirror.

McIndoe’s wife, Shirley, meanwhile, tells the Daily Mail that her husband was very upset with himself for not wearing earplugs. “When it first happened he wasn’t too bothered about it because he thought it would subside, and the friend he had been with also had ringing in his ears that day,” she explains. “But it was a constant irritation. He didn’t get a night of sleep after that.’

Metal artists who have gone on record about suffering from tinnitus include Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister and Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy, reports Fortunecity.com.
