Love Road Trips and BBQ? Don’t Miss This Texas Gem
I must say I wholeheartedly agree with the Texas town named one of the 15 best small towns to visit in the United States.
I write a lot about my never-ending search for great food. I’ve also written many pieces about my love for road-tripping and small towns.
So, I was very interested in Smithsonian Magazine’s list of the best small towns to visit. I clicked into it, hoping to find a new town within driving distance to check out, and while a Texas town did make the list, I’ve been there many times.

A Texas Town That’s All About the Barbecue
Let me tell you – if you love great barbecue and you’ve never been to Lockhart, you need to make your way to the “Barbecue Capital of Texas” ASAP. Here’s what Smithsonian had to say:
Lockhart’s legendary slow-cooking meat scene has recently received even greater accolades with the addition of its Barbs B Q eatery in the inaugural Michelin Guide Texas. Join the lines awaiting brisket, Molotov pork ribs, and sides such as green spaghetti made with a smoked poblano sauce at this stand-out gem, run by pitmaster Chuck Charnichart...Other favorite stops along Lockhart’s barbecue trail include the market-style Terry Black’s Barbecue and Smitty’s Market.
I’ll add Kreuz Market to the list of must-try Lockhart barbecue joints. My wife’s family is from there, and we always stop at Kreuz while we’re visiting, and the grub is fantastic every time.
