Texas’ Most Exciting Foodie City Isn’t Austin
If you were asked what Texas town is the best for foodies, you would probably say Austin. That would be my guess, anyway. And I would be wrong.
Look, Austin is one of my favorite cities in this great state of ours. It’s worthy of every single accolade it gets. But I must admit that I smiled when I saw which Texas town was named the most exciting for foodies by loveFOOD.

You see, my wife’s family is from Lockhart. So, we’ve spent quite a bit of time there over the years. And every time we’re headed that way, all I can think about is the fact that we’re about to chow down on some of the best food on the planet.
So yeah, I concur with Lockhart being named the most exciting foodie town in the Lone Star State.
BBQ Legends That Define the Town
Those who are in the know would tell you Lockhart is most famous for barbecue. If you’re looking for what, in my opinion, is the best barbecue around, you can’t go wrong with Kreuz Market, Black’s, Terry Black’s, or Smitty’s. It’s all good.
But we also make it a point to eat Mexican food while we’re in town. Because we’re visiting family we haven’t seen in a while, the drinks are flowing while we’re there, and our hangover go-to is breakfast tacos from Mr. Taco. That’s just one of the many great options in Lockhart.
My advice is that the next time you’re in the Austin area, make the short drive to Lockhart for some good grubbing. Your belly will thank you.
