A pair of local boy scouts helped a family in need on a recent hike and got one of the rarest honors a scout can get.

Wichita Falls is home to several boy scout troops, but today we're specifically talking about Troop 11. Two of their members were recently on a hike at Caprock Canyon State Park in Quitaque, Texas. The boys were getting some hiking in to prepare for a trip to New Mexico. Along their journey, they found a man in distress.
Family Was Suffering from Dehydration While Hiking
The two boy scouts, Ayden and Mason Macias, encountered a man who was on a hike with his two kids and pregnant wife. Apparently this family was not prepared for the heat on this hike. Thankfully these scouts were prepared and able to help this family out with getting re-hydrated. They actually got them water, electrolytes, and even some snacks to get them on their way. According to the Macias brothers, this family had only brought one bottle water for their hike.
Wichita Falls Brothers Honored with National Certificate of Merit
Both Ayden and Mason for their actions on this date have been awarded the National Certificate of Merit. This award is given to a scout, "who has performed an attempt to save a life or to recognize notable acts of service that need not involve attempts of rescue or risk to self, but put into practice Scouting skills and/or ideals."
Shout out to Ayden and Mason on stepping up during what was likely a very scary situation for this family they encountered on this day. For those interested in being a boy scout in Wichita Falls, you can check out the Northwest Texas Council website.
