Here’s how it works: Texas law says no one under 18 can get a tattoo unless it’s to cover up an old one that’s offensive, gang-related, or inappropriate. Even then, you can only do it if your parent or guardian is there and gives written permission.

So, if you’re 16 and just want a butterfly, quote, or your favorite band logo, sorry, it’s not happening legally in Texas. Piercings are a little more flexible with parent approval, but tattoos are treated differently.
