As someone who has a radio show, I am beyond disgusted by a Texas radio host who used his platform to scam millions from his primarily elderly listeners.

William Neil "Doc" Gallagher, who referred to himself as "The Money Doctor" on a North Texas Christian radio station, was sentenced to three life sentences and an additional 30 years in prison in 2021 and was ordered to pay a massive amount in restitution- $10,386,816.

His "investment business" was nothing more than a Ponzi scheme, which he promoted on his radio show and in books with eyebrow-raising titles like "Jesus Christ, Money Master."

Gallager, now 83, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison, as he's already had an appeal dismissed by the courts.

Now, his mistress has also received a massive prison sentence for her involvement in the scheme. Debra Mae Carter, 65, was sentenced to life in prison for her role in the money laundering scheme on July 30, 2024.

Carter laundered the funds through fake charities, rental homes, and land.

Together the pair scammed over 170 people out of more than $31 million.

Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney Lori Varnell referred to Carter as, "a blight on society" and I must agree.

Elderly people trusted these two because they used a platform that made them appear to be good, honest Christians. It's beyond disgusting.

Now, many of these people are suffering the consequences of trusting two charlatans. One woman who testified during the sentencing hearing lost her ability to pay off her mortgage, and will now be making house payments until she dies.
