Is Texas Still Among the Most Moved-To States?
One of the biggest stories of the last several years has been the huge influx of people moving into Texas. Is that still the case?
If you’re looking for a good measuring stick of how many people are moving into and out of a state, it doesn’t get much better than U-Haul. They’ve been releasing growth data reports for years now.
One trend we have been seeing since the 2010s is that more people are moving to the South than to any other region of the country. I imagine there are many reasons for this trend, but I assume warmer weather is one of those reasons (not to mention the food is awesome).
U-Haul Area District Vice President Matt Merrill had this to say about people relocating to Texas in a press release:
Not a week goes by where another business doesn’t relocate their world headquarters to Texas. There are tons of jobs available. When you couple that with our great education system, nightlife and entertainment, restaurants, sports teams, theme parks, and wine country, we have anything you could want in the state of Texas.
The Lone Star State had claimed the top spot on the list for the last couple of years. However, South Carolina leap-frogged Texas to lay claim to being the most moved-to state in the U.S. in 2024, pushing Texas to Number 2 on the list.
