Let this be a warning to any students, and also faculty as well, that some new four legged friends will be on campus this year.

WFISD has signed a contract with a company called H1 K9. They're a K9 detection services company. Their dogs are trained to detect drugs, weapons, and explosives. The company is based in Rockwall, but according to their Facebook page, their dogs are used all over the country for events.

What Wichita Falls Schools Will the Dogs Be Searching at?

No elementary schools will have these dogs present. However, middle and high schools within the WFISD will have these dogs searching for contraband. The dogs will search in common areas of the school, lockers, and the parking lots of the campus. We don't know when the dogs will start showing in Wichita Falls, but the WFISD told Times Record News 'they would be unannounced visits'.

H1 K9 Has Had Massive Busts in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area Last Year

In 2024, H1 K9 made national headlines after their team of dogs helped with 1,500 drug seizures in over 100 Dallas/Fort Worth schools last year. Some school districts like Garland ISD use the dogs daily for searches. It appears Wichita Falls will be using them more sporadically throughout the year.

Why is the WFISD Hiring This Company?

Many have wondered if H1 K9 is being used due to threats on our local campuses. The dogs are trained to detect bombs and firearms, not just drugs. According to WFISD police Chief Anthony Smith, this is a proactive measure. They have not received any information about a threat on our local campuses.

We will wait and see if these dogs find anything interesting in Wichita Falls.
