Former Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted Releases First Solo Track ‘Soldierhead’

Jason Newsted recently announced his internet presence with an official site, newsteadheavymetal.com and he also unveiled his new self-titled band that's been hard at work on new material. And now we get a little snippet of what is to come from the new EP simply titled Metal when it becomes available exclusively on iTunes January 8. He revealed the details of the EP when someone close to him tweeted a handwritten note he had sent them:

'Soldierhead' is a pretty solid tune with a nice (and completely expected) thrash riff in the vein of early Slayer and vocals reminiscent of Testament's Chuck Billy. It's good to see one of my favorite bass players and all-around cool mofos back in the saddle.
