
Fireworks Stands Officially Open Tomorrow in Wichita Falls, Texas
Fourth of July is around the corner and that means those fireworks stands are getting ready for business.
Fireworks Stands Dates for Sales in the Summer
All over the state of Texas you see fireworks stands and stores that are only open certain times of the year. In Texas for the Fourth of July, you can only legally sell fireworks from June 24 and ending at midnight on July 4. The only other times these places can open are from December 20 and ending at midnight on January 1.
Other Legal Dates for Fireworks in the State of Texas
Apparently other holidays throughout the year allow the sale of fireworks in Texas, if the county commissioners court approves of the sale. Apparently, Wichita County does not allow the sale of fireworks for the following holidays.
- May 1 and ending at midnight on May 5 if the fireworks are sold at a location that is not more than 100 miles from the Texas-Mexico border. (Cinco de Mayo)
- From Feb. 25 to midnight on March 2 – Texas Independence Day.
- From April 16 to midnight on April 21 – San Jacinto Day.
- From the Wednesday before the last Monday in May to midnight on the last Monday in May – Memorial Day.
- Five days before the first day of Diwali until midnight on the last day of Diwali.
Fireworks Illegal Within Wichita Falls City Limits
You can get more info on what the city limits of Wichita Falls are on the city's website. Fireworks are prohibited inside the Wichita Falls city limits, which means you must get permission to shoot them off on someone's property in the more rural parts of Wichita County.
Do Not Call 911 for Illegal Fireworks
The Wichita Falls Police Department asks for the public's help in not tying up emergency lines on the Fourth of July with calls of someone shooting off fireworks. If your property has been damaged or a fire has started due to fireworks, yes call 911. For someone shooting off fireworks where they should not be, those calls can go to the non-emergency line at 940-720-5000. Reminder, if you do decide to shoot off fireworks within Wichita Falls city limits and you're charged. That is a $2,000 fine.
