Around this time of the year, people enjoy exploring haunted areas of Texas with Halloween around the corner. Right here in Wichita Falls, we have some very interesting ones and this statue has become an interesting spot for locals to visit.

Someone that has spent a lot of time taking photos of this supposed haunted statue in Wichita Falls is Jim Livingston. He has spent decades taking pictures of the statue since the 1980's. He actually had some of these photos featured in a gallery at the Kemp Center for the Arts a few years ago. He says the statue has changed a lot over the years, but it's truly one of the most beautiful grave sites you will ever visit.

Some very famous Wichita Falls citizens are buried at the Riverside Cemetery in town. People that have had a huge impact in building up Wichita Falls throughout the years including Joseph Kemp who sadly had tragedy in his life back in 1910 when his daughter passed away at just twenty years old.

How Did Flora Kemp Die?

Now the story goes that Flora Kemp tripped down the stairs on her wedding day at the Kell House. She allegedly broke her neck and died on her wedding day. That's the story that has been passed around Wichita Falls for years now, even though some sources say that Flora passed away from typhoid in 1910 and not an actual fall that killed her. No matter how Flora died, it happened before her wedding day and that is why this has come to be known as the crying bride statue.

Coins, trinkets, and other strange things are often left at the crying bride statue. As you can see in the photo above, someone left their lighter and also a key. This has become a popular thing to do at celebrity grave sites, but the crying bride is just an eye catching part of the Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls.

Does the Statue Actually Cry?

This is one of those tales that has gone down in Wichita Falls lore throughout the years that when they go to visit the statue, they have actually seen it shed tears. You will have to go visit it for yourself to see if she actually does.
