If you’re a vigilant fan, chances are that you can create an opportunity to meet your favorite bands at some point in time. Most artists are now offering VIP experiences to those willing to pay a few more dollars at concerts, and radio stations will often have backstage opportunities for listeners. It’s a very rare treat, however, to get to perform with those artists, yet Christ Cornell of Soundgarden made one fan happy when he was invited on stage to perform an acoustic version of the song ‘Outshined.’

The fan in question is Ben Dawson of Newcastle, England. During a solo performance by Cornell, Dawson yelled out that he’d like to join Cornell on stage. That’s when he was invited up, picked up a guitar, and played the song.

Cornell is currently on a solo tour through Europe, though he had to reschedule a show this week due to a stomach virus.

Giving Ben Dawson this opportunity of a lifetime has me putting Chris Cornell on a pedestal. Most artists wouldn’t give someone that chance, and for any number of reasons. I could stand in front of a stage and ask to play something with him, but what if I got up there and couldn’t play the song? Maybe I would want to sing along with him, but I can’t sing? In Dawson’s case, he did a great job performing with Cornell, and I’m betting those in the audience were green with envy. Cornell took a chance, and it worked.

As for Soundgarden, their new album is due to come out in October.
