Chris Cornell's family will bury his body in a private ceremony on May 26, while plans for public memorials continue to come together.

Rolling Stone reports that the Soundgarden singer will be laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. According to family attorney Kirk Pasich, Cornell's body has been flown in from Detroit, where his body was discovered shortly after the group's May 17 performance. Although the burial won't be open to the public, Cornell's survivors are already contemplating ways to allow his fans to pay their respects.

"The family is thinking about a memorial for fans," a source said to be close to the family is quoted as telling CNN. For now, however, those close to the late singer are "coping ... with their loss and the funeral service."

Variety spoke separately with Pasich, who confirmed tentative plans for public services of some sort — and echoed that details were still very much up in the air, and would be announced "when that’s been decided."

In the meantime, fans have been finding their own ways to pay their respects. As previously reported, the Sound Garden in Seattle — a public art installation whose name inspired Cornell's band — quickly became a pilgrimage site for the grieving, many of whom left mementos and messages. Seattle radio station KEXP also held a public wake of sorts, inviting fans to congregate and offering what DJ John Richards called "a place to hang out and mourn."
