Whether it be the final chapter in a fantastic cinematic trilogy or classic monsters coming to life in a whole new way, with more clarity and better sound than ever before, this holiday season offers a plethora of movie box sets on Blu-Ray that every movie geek will want to own. I have taken the liberty of narrowing down from the dozens of box sets available to purchase this holiday season. First a little background as to why I would take the time to narrow it down.

As you can probably tell by now, I am  huge movie geek. I like just about every genre of movies from silent to foreign. I will even sing along with Gene Kelly as he taps down the street in "Singin' in the Rain". I am the kind of guy that will go see a movie by myself in an empty theater on a Thursday afternoon just because it was out. I LOVE movies!   I think you get the point.

I am a huge proponent of seeing movies in the theater because I am a firm believer in the experience and I feel that most movies, even today, are made with viewing them in a theater setting in mind. That being said I feel that Blu-Ray offers fans, geeks, and casual movie lovers a chance to experience cinema in a way like very before. That's why I put this list together. I chose these 6 (originally it was 5 but I couldn't cut it down any more). I used several moethods in the narrowing down process and I will not bore you with exactly how that process worked. I will tell you however the big things involved were the following... it had to be new this season... so no star wars box sets or anything like that. Price was involved. Prior availablilty on Blu-Ray... several movies on the list were never before available on Blu-Ray. Special and new content... one of the coolest things about Blu-Ray is the additional content.

So without any further ado.... Here are the top 6 new Blu-Ray box sets that you HAVE to buy this Christmas.... by the way I also included one to stay away from.

Bond. James Bond. In celebration of the iconic super-spy's monumental golden anniversary, this super-sleek must-have box set features all twenty-two of Agent 007's movie adventures -- from 'Dr. No' to 'Quantum of Solace' -- on Blu-ray disc for the first time in one complete offering. Amazon Price $349.99

The ONE to stay away from:

Despite featuring every bit of magical majesty that the franchise has to offer and also being kept in a wooden jewelry box type case this 31 disc set features only 5 hours of never before seen footage. Yeah the case is really cool and it is a limited and numbered edition which means it could one day be pretty valuable, but odds are they will release a box set again with EVEN MORE features... and for a price tag of $499.99 I will certainly take my chances that this will not be the ultimate set that Hogwart's has to offer.
