In a slightly different reality we'd call him a hero, unfortunately, that reality only existed in his mind.

New York State Police arrested 43-year-old Michael Orchard of Halfmoon, NY last week after finding him outside of a neighbors house, holding a dog, and thinking that he had saved the day.

"He believed that the residence was on fire and he was rescuing the dog," Trooper Mark Cepiel told WNYT. Unfortunately, there was no fire. It was all in Orchard's mind after he had mixed together and ingested LSD and cough syrup on Thursday, October 13th.

Troopers say that Orchard first started running around the neighborhood banging on doors and yelling about how one of the houses was on fire. When none of the neighbors would help, since there was no fire and it was just a man tripping on drugs banging on their doors and yelling, he decided to be the hero the world needed.

Orchard took his black BMW and drove through the fence to his neighbors house. He then broke down their door and ran in to grab their dog. When police arrived he was was holding the dog triumphantly and acted as if there was a raging inferno behind him. He then admitted to the troopers that he had taken the drugs beforehand.

Orchard ended up being placed under arrest for second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief and put in county jail on $15,000 bail. He didn't receive any charges for the drug use because his vehicle had only been used on private property and he wasn't in possession of any illegal drugs at the time.

Several neighbors reported that Orchard had damaged property in the past, but police said he was completely cooperative at the time of the arrest. The dog was unharmed by the incident. Check out the report from WNYT below for more details.

Very few heroes actually wear capes, but even fewer perform their heroic acts under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs. In another reality where that house was actually on fire, Orchard's fearless actions would be seen as courageous and noble. Unfortunately, here in the real world they just landed him with a criminal record.
