First Trailer For “Kick Ass 2″. Warning: It’s a RED BAND TRAILER!
To be perfectly honest, I don’t think many people were expecting much of the original “Kick Ass” movie, myself being one of them. But we were all taken off guard by the brutal realism, and quirky comedy, about a high schooler deciding to take matters into his own hands and becoming the super hero Kick Ass. The movie was a respectable success, and helped the careers of many of its fresh faces. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the title hero himself, has continued a very steady and note-worthy career since 2010 with movies like “Albert Nobbs”, “Savages”, and “Anna Karenina”. Chloë Grace Moretz, the foul-mouthed Hit Girl, was obviously the break out star of the film, going on to higher profile movies like Tim Burton’s take on “Dark Shadows” and the title role in the horror remake of “Carrie”. And the film’s director, Matthew Vaughn, already had an impressive resume leading up to “Kick Ass”, but that movie helped solidify him as a must-have director, leading to the directing chair for “X-Men: First Class” and as a rumored contender for the helm of the next James Bond film.
At the end of “Kick Ass” (SPOILERS) Hit Girl and Kick Ass survived the assault on the home of mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), leaving D’Amico dead, which you can see in the below trailer, and his son Chris/The Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) vowing revenge for the death of his father. Cut to a few years later and “Kick Ass 2″ picks up with Kick Ass and Hit Girl joining forces with fellow heroes, headed up by Col. Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey) to take on the renamed Red Mist and his crew of villains. At the same time, the authorities have outlawed vigilante justice, placing people like Kick Ass and Hit Girl on the same level of guilt at the villains. And its obvious by the trailer that this film deals more with Kick Ass having people close to him, such as his father and best friend, knowing his superhero identity, while Hit Girl has to deal with living up to the wishes of her father Big Daddy (Nic Cage) after he was killed in the first movie.
So far 2013 is shaping up to be an excellent year for Superhero films. “Kick Ass 2″ is joining the ranks of “Iron Man 3″ and “The Man of Steel” as a must-see comic book movie for the year. I will admit though, I’m a little skeptical of how the film will be without Vaughn in the director’s chair again. His directing style of a great part of the success of the first, and I just hope they are able to add enough to this one to balance the loss.
As it says in the title, this is a Red Band trailer, which means its naughty. Primarily you’re dealing with a little bit of violence here and some foul language. So if that bothers you, why are you reading this post in the first place? Look at the title of the movie!
