‘Dear Cocaine’ is one of the more cathartic songs of Crossfade‘s career, and the band wants to spread the healing beyond what went on while recording the track.

Crossfade are launching a campaign in which they’re seeking submissions from fans about obstacles in their lives that are bringing them down and intend on using them to create a video featuring their latest single.

“‘Dear Cocaine’ is a letter to that drug demanding that it will no longer have a place in this life. I know so many people who have gone through the perils of cocaine use. Some made it out, some never did,” says singer Ed Sloan in a video announcing the campaign. “‘Dear Cocaine’ touches to the very nerves and bones of love, hate, hope, and redemption. I’ve personally seen this drug tear through the fabric of many lives and I can only hope that this song has a positive, motivating effect to those who are or have gone the gravitational effects of it or any other drug.”

Sloan says that while the song specifically is about drug use, the broader message is about eliminating obstacles that cause toxicity in your life. The band is asking for fans to create a photo or 10-second video with a sign addressing what their particular struggles are, followed by a second sign stating, “I’m not your bitch (or whore) … anymore!” It could be an addiction, a bad relationship, low self-esteem, a physical ailment, or anything that’s holding you down. Visit the campaign site for details on how to submit your photos and videos.

The vocalist says that having met many of their fans personally, he knows those stories are out there and the feelings behind them are more diverse and powerful than any song they could have ever written. In addition to the submitted entries, the band is also urging fans to start an open conversation about their struggles via their social networks. Start a conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #cocaine or speak your mind via their Facebook page.

Crossfade return to the road June 1 to begin a tour in Knoxville, Tenn., with special guests Weaving the Fate and Candlelight Red.
