As the November 13 release date for The Direction of Last Things approaches, Intronaut guitarist Dave Timnick took a few minutes to talk to me about the new album and more.

For me, the thing that immediately came to mind upon hearing the album was how much more aggressive the set is compared to the band's last couple of records.

"I don't think we were consciously trying to go back to any type of thing, but I think we all felt personally, regardless of what anybody else said or thought, that we wanted to like, get a lot heavier on this record, because, just, our last two were more focused on evolving our sound and songwriting," Timnick said of the songwriting process.

We're thrilled that the record sounds, finally, like the way we feel like we sound when we play.

When it came time to record the album, the guys decided to record it live, partly because they wanted to set aside more of their recording budget for the mix.

"We rehearsed like crazy before we got in the studio and then we were able to have more money to spend on mixing, which was Devin Townsend, who did an amazing job," he said. "We're thrilled that the record sounds, finally, like the way we feel like we sound when we play."

Even when Intronaut aren't gearing up to record a new album, the band get together to rehearse on a regular basis - one of the major benefits of everyone living in Los Angeles.

"When we're writing, we're together all the time, like five nights a week for hours," Timnick said of the band's practice schedule. "And then when we're getting ready for touring, like we are right now, we get together about four nights a week."

Speaking of touring, Intronaut will be at the House of Blues in Dallas along with Between the Buried and Me and Enslaved Sunday, December 6. Keep up with all things Intronaut on their website.
