Really man, the donation jar?

Detective Jon Hoffman saw a man sprinting out of a 7-11 in Plano this past Friday. He knew something was wrong, so he followed the guy. Turns out the man stole a donation jar off the counter of a convenience store. The donations were going to support childhood cancer research.

The man who stole the jar resisted arrest and began fighting with the officer. Two men nearby came to the officers' aid in this fight. Kirby Sample and his friend Harvey came to save the day. Harvey is homeless and says he's had run-ins with the law before.

"I've been on the wrong side of the law several times in my life,” Harvey said. “It feels extremely good to be on the right side and do something positive.”Both men said Detective Hoffman did everything he could to not use deadly force on the man.

Sample and Harvey said the world would be a better place if there were more officers like Hoffman on the streets. "He could have easily pulled his gun but he didn't. He did it the right way," Sample said. Hoffman said the credit belongs to Harvey and Sample. He said that, in this climate, it means the world to know the community is there for its police.
