About two weeks ago System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian blamed lead singer Serj Tankian as the reason that the band had not released or recorded any new music recently. We all Tankian is a busy, busy man, he has two albums coming out this summer, he plans on playing a few shows in Europe in August with System before setting off on a solo orchestral tour thru Europe, and of don't forgot his musical paintings. It's been a long, long time since System of a Down have released an album … about seven-and-a-half years to be exact. Now that the band has been playing live shows again over the past couple of years, fans have been drooling for some new material, and according to drummer John Dolmayan, System of a Down "are going to make a new album at a certain point."
System of a Down fans have been patient in recent years, with the group spending a lot of time on hiatus pursuing other musical avenues. Serj Tankian is set to release his newest offering of left of center tuneage in the form of Harakiri on July 10 and to prep us for the release he's dropped the lyric video to the first single "Figure You Out".
Mastodon singer-bassist Troy Sanders recently sat down with Hysteria Magazine during the band’s residency on Australia’s touring Soundwave Festival. During the interview, Sanders took the opportunity to dispel the rumors once and for all about a reported altercation between Mastodon and System of a Down, which put Mastodon singer-guitarist Brent Hinds in the hospital.
In between their Soundwave Festival performances in February and March, System of a Down also played a few headlining shows in Australia. The recent show on Feb. 29 in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena turned into a star-studded event.
The lineup for the second annual DimeBash has been announced.
