Scott Bakula To Star In New ‘NCIS’ Spinoff

After a failed attempt at a second ‘NCIS’ spinoff,  producers are planning a new spinoff set in New Orleans and starring ‘Quantum Leap’ star Scott Bakula.

Tentatively called ‘NCIS: New Orleans’, the series will focus on cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle, also delving into incidences with those on leave in the New Orleans area.  Bakula will play NCIS Special Agent Pride who is driven by a “need to do what’s right and does it all with warmth, passion, strength and humor,” an almost polar opposite of Agent Gibbs played by Mark Harmon on the core ‘NCIS’ cast, regularly the highest rated scripted show on television.

Since making a name for himself as the lead in the cult classic sci-fi series ‘Quantum Leap’, Bakula headed up the cast of the Star Trek prequel series ‘Enterprise’ as well as recently on TNT’s ‘Men of a Certain Age’.

The last attempt for a ‘NCIS’ spinoff was in 2012 with the cast of the proposed ‘NCIS: Red’ appearing in a two-part story on ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’, much as ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ debuted on ‘NCIS’.  The show would center on a mobile NCIS team investigating crimes across the country and starring John Corbett as Agent Roy Quaid, however CBS passed on the pilot and the series was abandoned.  The New Orleans crew is planned to be introduced in a two-part episode on the primary series in the spring, with the hopes of a full series being picked up in the fall.
