In a recent interview, ‘Friday the 13th reboot producer Brad Fuller spoke about the future of both the ‘Friday the 13th and ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ rebooted franchises from Platinum Dunes.

Speaking with Crave Online, Fuller commented on the stories that the next ‘Friday the 13th, the 13th film in the franchise, would be a found-footage movie,

It’s something that we’re looking at, yeah. I never know because it depends on the story and what the story is.  It’s been reported, that’s something that we’re looking into but I can’t tell you definitively that that’s what the movie is. … Until we figure out exactly what the story is for the next Friday the 13th movie, I can’t tell you what it’s going to be.

As Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes have a limited time frame on the rights to ‘Friday the 13’, they’ve already slated the next film to be released on March 13, 2015, though no story or script has even been finalized.  Fuller also couldn’t even verify if new Jason actor Derek Mears would be reprising the role in the sequel,

I don’t know because I don’t know if we’re going to have Jason, I don’t know which Jason we’re going to have.  I can tell you this: I love Derek Mears, I love working with him and he’s a dream so we’d be lucky to have him.

Its Fuller’s comment here that has a lot of fans speculating, the possibility that the next film might not even have the iconic killer Jason Voorhees.  Of the twelve films, Jason was not the killer for only two of them, three if you count the convoluted possession plot in ‘Jason Goes to Hell’.  It wouldn’t be anything new, but maybe not the best idea since the series is known for and successful because of its iconic hockey mask wearing villain.

Apart from the scheduled future of Jason, Fuller mentioned that there is no word on a follow up to the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ reboot starring Jackie Earle Haley as the new Freddy Kruger.  The reboot was a financial success, brining in $115 million with a budget of $35 million, but Fuller has said no one is talking about a new film and he thinks it because of ‘The Conjuring’,

I haven’t heard a thing. It’s a little bit disappointing. We were very proud of that movie. It was Rooney Mara’s first starring role.  I’d love to make Freddy Krueger movies every couple years. It’d be fantastic.

New Line had such a huge hit with ‘The Conjuring’ and that was a fantastic movie and it feels like New Line might be moving away from the kind of horror with a lot of blood and that kind of thing in their movie, more towards what The Conjuring was. At least that’s what I’ve heard but no one has talked to us about Nightmare on Elm Street.
