UPDATE: A Wichita Falls man led Burkburnett police on a brief high speed chase shortly before 8:00 am this morning.

38-year-old Jose Armando Lara  was taken into custody after crashing his black pickup near the Wal Mart on Central Freeway.

Lara has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and is being held in the Wichita County Jail on a $1 million bond.  According to the Wichita County Sheriff's Office inmate roster, Lara has also been charged with evading arrest, possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to police, Lara made an illegal U-turn in a school zone in Burkburnett.  When officers tried to pull Lara over, he sped away.  Burk PD pursued the truck and chased the vehicle down I-44 toward Wichita Falls.  Police say that Lara exited at Airport Drive then drove through a grassy median area near the I-44/US 287 intersection before coming to a stop.

Police quickly took the suspect into custody.  A male passenger in the vehicle claimed he was kidnapped at gunpoint at a McDonald's restaurant in Wichita Falls and forced to go to Burkburnett.  The identity of the kidnapped man has not been released.
