Kid Rock Condemns Nazis + KKK, Teases Run for President in Onstage Rant

Kid Rock, who has never been shy about saying what is on his mind politically, opened a show in his home state of Michigan Wednesday night (Sept. 6) in the form of a mock political address where he called out white nationalists, made yet another reference to Colin Kaepernick and even teased running for U.S. President.

“If you want to take a knee or sit during our ‘Star-Spangled Banner,’ call me a racist ’cause I’m not PC and think you have to remind me that Black Lives Matter. Nazis, f–kin’ bigots and now again the KKK, screw all you a–holes, stay the f–k away,” Rock says in the speech which can be viewed above. “Like it or not, Hillary Clinton lost and your president is Donald motherf–king Trump. And if Kid Rock for Senate has got folks in disarray, wait ’till they hear Kid Rock for President of the USA!” Watch the full four-minute speech above.

Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, has already teased a run for the United States Senate, although he’s backed off of it somewhat and turned a focus more toward getting voters to turn out.

Meanwhile, there’s one group who is calling for the singer’s upcoming Detroit shows to open the city’s new arena next week be called off and another to say the decision for organizers to have him perform the gigs in the first place bad judgement.

Peter Hammer, director of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at Detroit’s Wayne State University has called Rock’s continued comments directed toward beleaguered NFL player Colin Kaepernick, “incredibly tone deaf.” He cited the singer’s continued references to the quarterback, who has been criticized in some circles for taking a knee during the national anthem.

Most recently, at last month’s performance at the Iowa State Fair, Rock reportedly said, “Football’s about ready to start. You know what? F–k Colin Kaepernick.”

“Everything is different post-Charlottesville,” Hammer says, in reference to last month’s white nationalist rally in the Virginia city which resulted in the death of one counter-protester and injuries to many more.

“These are moments where you have to act as a matter of character and state what your values are,” he adds. “Everything now is becoming symbolic. That means we have to choose our symbols carefully.”

The National Action Network’s Detroit chapter is taking it one step further, calling for Rock’s six shows at the arena to be canceled. They also plan to protest next week.

“This is the straw that broke the camel’s back,” says the Rev. Charles Williams II, president of the network’s Detroit chapter. “When you hire Kid Rock, who is known to be dog-whistling and cat-calling to white supremacist organizations and the white supremacist community, alt-right, whatever you want to call them, and you take our tax dollars to do that? That’s wrong.”

Little Caesar’s Arena will be the new home for the NHL’s Red Wings and the NBA’s Pistons and is owned by Detroit’s Downtown Development Authority and is managed by Olympia Entertainment, which is owned by Ilitch Holdings. Rock will also be opening a restaurant there.

“While I can’t control what any artist does or says, I can guide our businesses to continue bringing life-changing opportunities to people in our community,” Ilitch Holdings President and CEO Christopher Ilitch says in response to questions about the choice of Kid Rock to open the arena. “I will always demand that our companies strive to do right by Detroit, our community and its people.”

In other Kid Rock news, he’s just released a new single “Tennessee Mountain Top,” which is available for purchase here.
