Let's have some fun with the full history of Dr Pepper. Many of these sodas also have a diet or zero sugar variety. If they were released in the same year, I won't include them on the list. Let me know how many you have tried.

Dr Pepper (1885)

As with many sodas back in the day, they claimed to have health benefits. Dr Pepper apparently aids in digestion and restores vim, vigor, and vitality. For over 100 years, this soda has been a favorite all over Texas.

Diet Dr Pepper (1962)

Dr Pepper would go almost 100 years without a new soda flavor. Back in 1962 it was called "Dietary Dr. Pepper", but was renamed "Sugar Free Dr. Pepper". Sales didn't do well and it came Diet Dr Pepper in 1987. Even though the soda was the same throughout all those years, folks didn't like the name before diet because they thought it was for diabetics.

Caffeine Free Dr Pepper (1982)

Although a diet version of the soda came out first. Caffeine Free Dr Peppers were aimed at the more health focused folks in the early 80's. For a period of a few years, it was actually called "Pepper Free" Dr Pepper.

Dr Pepper Red Fusion (2003)

Not everything was a hit in the Dr Pepper family. This particular soda lasted only two years. It was said to have a cherry flavor to it. The cherries would not be too far away though.

Dr Pepper Cherry Vanilla (2004)

Right when Red Fusion was dying out. Dr Pepper decided to debut something called the "Soda Fountain Classics". This plan for a full line of new sodas was eventually cancelled due to poor sales. We would get one more soda in this line in 2006.

Dr Pepper Berries and Cream (2006)

Only two sodas came out of the short lived "Soda Fountain Classics". Sadly it only lasted two years, but Dr Pepper has brought it back for special occasions on limited runs recently. So if you see some, buy it up.

Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr Pepper (2007)

Probably the most interesting soda on the list because it was ONLY available in diet. Chocolate cherry is a fan favorite. Sadly, it didn't even last a year.

Dr Pepper Cherry (2009)

Yeah, it's weird just Dr Pepper Cherry took so long to come out by itself. Technically Red Fusion was cherry, then we had cherry mixed with other things, but just Dr Pepper Cherry didn't see the light of day since 2009. This one is still around to this day.

Heritage Dr Pepper 2009

Also coming out in 2009 was Heritage Dr Pepper said to be the original flavor of Dr Pepper before they switched to high fructose corn syrup in the 1970's. This soda is still around, but it's now known as something else.

Dr Pepper Made With Real Sugar 2010

If you're buying this, you're buying Heritage Dr Pepper. Not really sure why the name change, but maybe folks were confused with what heritage meant.

Dr Pepper Ten 2011

What a strange advertising this campaign was. Instead of trying to get into single digits for calories. Dr Pepper said our new soda was ten calories and it was for men. The soda actually lasted awhile but was discontinued in 2018.

Dr Pepper Vanilla Float 2014

This soda lasted only the summer of 2014, but that was the plan all along. Who doesn't love an ice cream float on a hot summer day? Just crack this thing open without having to open up the ice cream.

Dr Pepper Dark Berry 2019

This has become known as the Dr Pepper "Movie Soda". Why? It only returns when it has a movie tie in. It originally came out in 2019 to promote Spiderman Far From Home. Then it went away. It came back in 2022 to promote Jurassic World Dominion. After that, it went away again. If you love this soda, need a big blockbuster movie to go along with it I guess.

Dr Pepper Cream Soda 2020

Hey 2020 wasn't so bad, right? Nah it sucked. One highlight was getting a new Dr Pepper flavor, that is still around to this day.

Dr Pepper Zero Sugar 2021

Dr Pepper went all in on zero sugar in 2021. They came out with original, cherry, and cream soda all in zero sugar varieties.

Dr Pepper Strawberries and Cream 2023

Finally we come to my personal favorite on the list. Strawberries and cream, in my opinion 100% better than the cream soda one. I prefer the strawberry flavor to the cherry and this is a home run in my opinion.

What's Next?!

In doing some research for this story today, a lot of folks are saying that creamy coconut is coming this summer. Please don't get too hyped for this. I can't find anything officially from Dr Pepper yet, so this maybe an internet hoax. We will wait and see if this one gets added to the list in the future.
