Eddie Vedder has said that John Lennon's 'Imagine' is "the most powerful song ever written," and the Pearl Jam frontman just released his cover of the song to benefit Heartbeat.fm -- an organization that uses music in an attempt to foster peace between Israel and Palestine.

Vedder performed the song for the first during a July solo show in Portugal, just as he was making headlines for his comments regarding the conflict in Gaza. During a Pearl Jam concert in London, he said, "There are people out there who are looking for a reason to kill. They’re looking for a reason to go across borders and take over land that doesn’t belong to them. They should get the f--- out and mind their own f---ing business.”

He later posted a statement on Pearl Jam's website clarifying his stance. "That’s not something I’m going to stop anytime soon,” he said. "Call me naïve. I’d rather be naïve, heartfelt and hopeful than resigned to say nothing for fear of misinterpretation and retribution.”
