Chris Cornell found himself on the Saturday Night Live stage last night, but not as the musical guest. Cornell was the special guest of the musical guest, the Zac Brown Band. The country superstars appeared on SNL to promote their upcoming Jeckyll + Hyde album, which features a Cornell guest turn on a track called "Heavy Is the Head."

Cornell actually opens the song on vocals and later returns to deliver some of the chorus. Meanwhile, the Zac Brown Band lays down some sinister sounding, harder rocking licks behind the singer. You can check out the performance from Saturday Night Live above.

This isn't the first time that the Zac Brown Band have dabbled in rock. The group issued The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1 EP back in 2013. The four-song set found Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl producing the tracks on the release and even sitting in on drums for "Let It Rain." Brown later returned the favor, appearing in the Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways documentary and guesting on the song "Congregation."

As for the Jeckyll + Hyde album, the Zac Brown Band also snagged pop superstar Sara Bareilles for a guest vocal on the song "Mango Tree." Digital pre-orders of Jeckyll + Hyde will include immediate downloads of the band's cover of Jason Isbell's "Dress Blues" as well as the Cornell collaboration on "Heavy Is the Head." Look for the disc dropping on April 28.
