A summer without ice cream is depressing. If you're one of those die hard Blue Bell lovers, 2015 has been the summer to forget.

The news broke in mid March about the Blue Bell recall. The recall was due to a deadly bacteria called listeria. Three people died from listeria in the ice cream and another ten were sent to the hospital with stomach illness.

“In FDA testing, more than 99 percent of Blue Bell products had Listeria in it,” said Mike Doyle, director of the Center for Food Safety at the University of Georgia. “It was incredible. It wasn’t high levels, but it was there.” The equipment at the Blue Bell plant has been completely taken apart, cleaned and sanitized.

If you're worried about another listeria outbreak from Blue Bell, the FDA will be doing routine inspections for awhile to insure something like this doesn't happen again. Prepare for a ton of tests before that ice cream hits the shelves. They want to insure nothing like this ever happens again.

We have had some hope that Blue Bell was returning when trucks were spotted going down the highway. It looks to me like within the month we could be getting Blue Bell ice cream back on the shelves. Put me down for some chocolate chip cookie dough and someone be sure they get this kid some.
