Text Messages Allegedly Show Teen Encouraging Boyfriend to Commit Suicide

A teenage girl in Massachusetts is facing involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of another teen.

The nature of how she committed the crime is not at all what you might expect.  Fox4News.com reports that 18-year-old Michelle Carter sent text messages to her boyfriend, 18-year-old Conrad Roy, encouraging him to kill himself.

According to text messages released by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and reported by the Huffington Post, the teen girl pushed the young man to take his own life:

Everyone will be sad for a while but they will get over it and move on.  You have to just do it…You have everything you need.  There is no way you can fail. Tonight is the night.  It's now or never.

The text exchange and suicide occurred in July. Bristol County prosecutors say Roy drove his pickup to a K-Mart parking lot in Fairhaven, near New Bedford, with a gas powered generator. Carbon monoxide fumes from the generator caused Roy’s death.

According to court documents, while at K-Mart Roy got out of his truck and texted Carter telling her he wasn't sure if he could go through with it. She texted back telling him to "get back in."

If convicted, Carter faces up to 20 years in prison.
