Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport were doing their usual luggage checks when they encountered a passenger carrying something they definitely weren’t supposed to have. It was a whole bag filled with these smelly little insects. The bugs were quickly taken away and handed over to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to figure out exactly what kind they were and where they came from. You can check out the little guys in the video below.

Now, you might be wondering, “Why does it matter? They’re just bugs.” But stink bugs aren’t just annoying. They can actually be a huge problem for farmers. These little pests love to eat crops like fruits and vegetables, and if too many of them get loose, they can cause a lot of damage. They also multiply quickly, which makes it even harder to control them once they’re out in the wild. That’s why CBP officers work hard to stop invasive species like this from sneaking into the country.

DFW Airport Stops a Suitcase Full of Stink Bugs

It’s unclear whether the passenger knew they were carrying stink bugs or if they accidentally brought them along. Either way, customs officers at DFW caught them before they could spread. With thousands of people traveling through the airport every day, CBP has to stay on high alert for anything that could harm the environment or the economy.
