Of all the movie studios to take control of a film series with a cult following like "Leprechaun", why does it have to be WWE?  Ever since the WWE opened their own film division, their releases haven't been very well received.  Movies like "See No Evil", "The Marine", and "The Condemned" received full theatrical releases, but didn't see too much success.  The "Leprechaun" film will be the biggest brand that WWE Studios has attempted.

WWE Studios is pairing up with Lionsgate Entertainment to bring "Leprechaun" back to the big-screen in 2013, 20 years after the original film, with a possible sequel afterwards.  The original "Leprechaun" starred Warwick Davis, kick started the career of Jennifer Aniston, and spawned 6 sequels.  WWE CEO Vince McMahon and Film Division Lead Michael Luisi are optimistic about the future of WWE Studios with "Leprechaun",

"We have been looking for ways to continue our relationship with Lionsgate and we saw 'Leprechaun' as the perfect opportunity to take a well-known franchise and put a modern-day spin on it. This is a property that we believe our audience will respond to and we continue to look for ways to surprise and engage them."

At this time, no one is attached to the project on either side of the camera.  Early rumors are leaning towards WWE casting dwarf wrestler Dylan Postl, better known as "Hornswoggle", as the title character.  Postl has been with WWE since 2007, starting as a Leprechaun character.
