Wichita County officials had to divert traffic on US 287 north-bound at FM 2384, about 4 miles east of Electra at around 2 pm today.  Smoke had reduced visibility to near zero.  Wichita County Constable Mark Brewer advised that the highway was reopened at around 2:35 pm.  No injuries have been reported.  Officials caution everyone to be careful.  Do not drive your vehicle into high grass, as catalytic converters and hot mufflers can ignite fires.  Also, do not throw cigarette butts out of your vehicle.  Numerous area grass fires along roadsides this year have been caused by cigarette butts.  And officials want to remind everyone that burn bans are in effect in Wichita, Archer, Clay, Montague, Wilbarger and Young counties.  The use of fireworks is prohibited under these burn bans.
