The one in Oklahoma is not too far away from us here in Wichita Falls.

A new survey from the folks at 24/7 Wall St. has determined the poorest cities in the country by state. In Texas, we have got San Benito, which is located right at the southern tip of Texas. The town's median income comes in at $27,880. Meanwhile, in the rest of Texas, the median income sits at $53,035. The town also has a poverty rate of a little over 37%.

From Wichita Falls, it would take you nine hours to get to San Benito. For Oklahoma's poorest city, you could get there in just under two hours from here. Located just west of Lawton is Hollis, Oklahoma. A median income there is slightly above the worst in Texas, coming in at $28,327. The average median income for Oklahoma is $47,529. The town also has a poverty rate of 27%.

24/7 Wall St. also did the richest towns by state. For Texas, you drive to the Southeast and you find yourself in West University Place, Texas. They have got some people making some money in that town with a median household income of $207,429 and a poverty rate of just 2%.

Located just past Oklahoma City is Jenks, Oklahoma. They have the richest town in the state with a median income $84,758 and a poverty rate of just 4%. So if you want to make it in Texas or Oklahoma, I would stick to the cities on the bottom of this list.
