The Wichita Falls ISD Board of Trustees met for barely 15 minutes Thursday afternoon and name Michael Kuhrt as the lone finalist for WFISD Superintendent.  Kuhrt has served as interim superintendent since the departure of Dr. John Frossard in May of this year.

Frossard left to take the superintendent position with the troubled Beaumont ISD.  There is a state mandated 21-day waiting period before Kuhrt can officially take on the role of superintendent. This allows time for the Board of Trustees to negotiate the contract.

Board members expressed their satisfaction with the job Kurht has done thus far.  “I like the way the district is moving forward,” board member Kevin Goldstein said. “We are excited to have him and his family here."

“This past year has been a really good time for us to get to know him,” board president Trey Sralla said. “We got to see his management style and how he interacts with people. He has proven himself to be the right person for the job."

Kurht expressed his joy at being selected.  “It feels wonderful. It really is a great feeling,” Kuhrt said.  "It is our responsibility to prepare students to be ready for the world. That is what I’m here to help our district do. I want us to be the best – the district of choice in North Texas.”

Kuhrt began working for WFISD as the associate superintendent in August 2014. He played a key role in developing the most recent bond initiative approved by voters on May 9.  Before coming to the WFISD, he served as a superintendent in Dayton ISD from 2010 - 2013. Prior to that, he was superintendent in Giddings ISD from 2004 - 2010.
