Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo certainly raised a few eyebrows when at the height of the band's fame, he stepped away from the group to pursue a college education. Now that experience is serving as the basis for a new FOX TV pilot.

According to Deadline, the single-camera 'DeTour' is being written by 'Psych' creator Steve Franks, who is basing the series on a rock star who makes the decision to quit his band at age 30 to go back to school.

In real life, Cuomo scattered his education while continuing to play and record with the band, spending time at Harvard between the years of 1995 and 2006. He eventually completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While Weezer albums continued to be released, he did take a sabbatical for a period where he lived in the dorms, tried out for school choir (but didn't get in), made friends and met his wife. He went on to graduate Cum Laude from Harvard.

Cuomo will serve as an executive producer on the series along with his manager Dan Field. At this point, FOX has just ordered a pilot to see if they want to pick it up for a series run. Casting for the pilot was not revealed, but if you have suggestions, feel free to offer them in the Comments section below.
