Volition Announces ‘Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell’ Expansion Game
One of the most popular games of 2013, ‘Saints Row IV’ will be back with new versions on the Xbox One and PS4, as well as a stand-alone expansion called ‘Gat Out of Hell’.
Volition made the announcement today at PAX Prime, showing off first footage in a trailer. After the events of ‘Saints Row IV’, the Saints are playing with a Ouija board when a portal opens and sucks in the Boss/President/God Emperor. Johnny Gat and Kenizie volunteer to go after the Boss, meeting up with former rival Dane Vogul (Jay Mohr), and attempt to save the Boss before he’s forced to marry Satan’s daughter Jezebel. Players will control Johnny Gat and Kenzie, using new abilities such as sprouting angel wings and new weaponry names after stories and curses from the Bible.
While most are familiar with Downloadable Content add-ons, adding a new mission set or extra weapons, not many games have gone the route of an expansion set. Usually an expansion set acts as its own game, not making it necessary to have the original game like DLC, and runs as long as some full-length games. ‘Red Dead Redemption’ released possibly the most popular expansion set with ‘Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare’, taking place just before the final mission in the original game and placing John Marston against zombies. ‘Far Cry 3′ also released a popular expansion, ‘Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’, using much of the same area as the original game, but completely changing the rest of the game to look like an 80s sci-fi film.
Apart from the expansion set, a higher resolution version of ‘Saints Row 4′ for PS4 and Xbox One was also announced, called ‘Saints Row 4: Re-Elected’. The new version will contain all Downloadable Content from the previous generation version, and will be bundled with ‘Gat Out of Hell’. ‘Gat Out of Hell’ will also be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and is reportedly set to cost $20. ‘Saints Row 4: Re-Elected’ and ‘Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell’ will be released on physical media and for download on January 27, 2015.
