Blasting technical death metal makes me happy, therefore it should come as no surprise that I am eagerly awaiting every release from Origin. And luckily they don't make us wait too terribly long...you can typically count on a release about every 3 years.

Entity is simply Origin doing what they've always done musically while pushing themselves to even higher levels of brutal technicality yet introducing a little more groove and hook. Check out "Saliga" below...it's one hell of a catchy tune.

Thankfully, the vocals are out front and in your face instead of being buried in the mix like they were on 2008's Antithesis. It's amazing to me that this album was actually recorded without a vocalist. Guitarist Paul Ryan and bassist Mike Flores shared vocal duties and man they nailed it...the band doesn't miss a beat.

Drummer John Longstreth is a beast as usual and his parts are definitely a highlight of the album. His drumming provides the backbone of the "wall of sound" aspect that is crucial to this style of death metal.

My favorite tracks on the album are the aforementioned "Saliga" as well as opener "Expulsion of Fury" and "Evolution of Extinction".

Entity is out now on Nuclear Blast Records.
