The Original Harlem Shake Dance Moves

I found it! The original Harlem Shake dance, not the viral internet sensation that stole it’s name from this early 2000s dance move. You can see it below and even learn the dance yourself that way you can show people how the real Harlem Shake is done. The dance move has been around since 1981 but failed to reach mainstream success until 2001 when rapper G. Dep featured the dance in his music video for “Let’s Get It.” The Harlem Shake doesn’t stop there though, several artist used the dance moves and it continued to evolve until in 2006 a similar dance move called the “Chicken Noodle Soup” was created.

So now, in 2013, we have the new Harlem Shake, which is just a bunch of people (usually white people) not even using the right dance moves and just thrusting their hips in every direction. I wouldn’t really call that dancing but it is extremely entertaining thanks to all the randomness in the videos.

Has anyone thought about how the citizens of the Harlem community feel about these viral videos? Well they don’t like it. They say it’s disrespecting the original dance moves. Just a bunch of people shaking and wriggling around and not even taking the dance seriously or thinking about the back round of where these moves came from. Check out the video below to see how a few Harlem residents feel about this new internet sensation.
