The hour has arrived! Today, we get our first morsel of The Black Dahlia Murder's next great album, Abysmal, and I'm pleased as peach to tell you that not a damn thing has changed if "Vlad, Son of the Dragon" is any indication. According to a press release, the album is every bit as brutal as we've come to expect from the band. Here's what vocalist Trevor Strnad had to say about the set:

Once the record started to come together we knew it was going to be something special. It's more urgent, it has more dynamics, it's a more emotive record, and it has a more raw, angry sound to it. It's still million mile-per-hour death metal, but when you invest so much thought and emotion into what you're creating you end up with a record that does stand out, and we can hold our heads up high and say yeah, this is our best work.

Abysmal is lined up for a September 18 release on Metal Blade Records.
