Nothing against Swedish death metal because it's definitely good stuff, but I've always favored the more brutal style that comes from our country, particularly the Tampa bands of the early 90's. I was immediately struck by how American Sweden's Aeon sounded upon first listen and that was the first thing I asked guitarist Zeb Nilsson about when he called me for the December 22 edition of The Oath.

Kinda like re-thrash in the early 2000's, bands playing old-school hard rock/metal are popping up all over the place these days. Don't get me wrong - I dig it and even my brothers in Coffin Crusher are doing it now and have my full support. But admittedly I'm one of those people who are wary of trends and tend to develop a prejudice against bands that I perceive to be jumping on board with the "next big thing" (even if we are talking "big" in terms of the underground).
