A new law in Oklahoma requiring welfare recipients to pass a drug screen or lose their benefits was passed back in May 2012 and went into effect on November 1, 2012. Adults who apply in Oklahoma to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program will be denied benefits if they fail the drug test or refuse to submit to screening.

Dr. Kim D. Janda, a Scripps Research Institute professor, is one of the leading experts, having made addiction vaccines his main priority for the past 25 years. “We view this as an alternative or better way for some people,” he tells The New York Times in reference to rehab programs.

Pot Smokers Are Less Likely to Be Obese Than Non-Smokers

People who smoke pot once a week are about 25 percent less likely to be obese than non-smokers.

According to a study by French researchers, marijuana smokers have a 16 percent rate of obeseity, whereas those who don’t partake enjoy a rate of obesity between 22 and 25 percent.
